STORYTELLING IN PAINTING

With this project, I aimed to elaborate on the dimension of storytelling in the painting medium. Overall, many see storytelling as something affiliated with writing. The following pieces are created to disclose highly detailed narratives within the boundaries of a framed canvas. They are primarily directed at building an entirely different universe that reveals many of its rules and characters.

CAFE MODERN

Café Modern is directed to cherish visual aesthetic of modern dining culture. The Café Modern works show how classical still art and portrait scenarios could be interpreted in modern society’s approach of seeing and feeling food nowadays. Some paintings are depicted from a high up angle. This choice was made to emphasize the popular modern way of perceiving the first impression of your dish: high up from the angle of a phone camera.

ABOUT

Trach Bardo (Dmytro Trach) is a visual artist from Vinnytsia, Ukraine, currently based in Amsterdam. His journey began at age 10 with drawing classes that sparked a lifelong passion for art. Over the years, painting evolved into a deeply personal practice—especially after relocating to the Netherlands and in response to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Dmytro’s work creates immersive, self-contained worlds that invite viewers to step inside and explore. His visual language is defined by vivid color, clean forms, and symbolic detail. Recurring motifs: flowers, hospitality objects, architectural fragments—act as emotional and cultural anchors, offering layered, reflective narratives.

While visually bold, his paintings often carry a quiet tension. They explore contrasts: light and shadow, stillness and movement, structure and spontaneity—without offering fixed interpretations. Many of his works have been donated to support charitable causes, reflecting his belief in art as a form of connection and care.

In 2025, Dmytro held his first solo exhibition in Amsterdam, marking a key milestone in his artistic journey. His paintings are not about answers—they are invitations to pause, reflect, and enter new spaces shaped by memory, emotion, and imagination.
